Plants update for 2010

I planted some herbs (not herb!), tomatoes, beans, peas, and a radish in my garden this year.

The picture is of the radish with two bean plants in a pot.

The next two are the pea plants in the soil with the herbs. The two plants "above" ground are the tomatoes which I am planting into a soil-less mixture.

Since I get no sun here, I am going to try to do this growing indoors with a grow-light.

Ate the fruit of my labor

The sugar snap pea was ready.

So I ate it. I just pulled it off of the plant, took a bite of half and gave the other half to Sara.

Pretty tastey, I think I have 5 coming up. One is actually growing, I have one flower, and 3 flower buds.

Next year, I will plant quite a bit more plants, probably like 6-8 in one pot, and a better support structure.

New Fruit

First flower to new fruit. The flower became a bean pod, its growing extremely quickly. I saw it yesterday, and today its about twice the size.

First Flower

One of the sugar snap pea plants has made it's first flower.

The radishes can also be seen, they don't seem to be storing any energy, I don't think they get enough sunlight. I hope it bears fruit.

Garden update

I was reading some random gardening books in the library at a book sale, and found out that you can plant garlic pieces. Sara found some garlic in the back of the fridge hidden behind everything that had sprouted... so, I planted four garlic plants. One garlic plant is in the same pot as the four radishes. The sugar snap peas are looking good, I added dowels so that they would have something to grow on. The radish plants are not making radishes, I don't think they have enough light. What I think are pepper plants are also not growing any bigger.

Greenery and the sea

I decided to start planting stuff again. I started out with some flowers, but they never could grow, squirrels would eat them as soon as they sprouted. I have been hitting them with the bb gun set to "bruise". If they eat a radish of mine, it will be set to "stun" and then "kill".

As alluded to, I have also planted some radishes. I have been planting 3-5 per week for three weeks now, so I should have 3-5 radishes every week. I'll plant more this weekend.

As you can see, one radish sprout is missing a leaf, and another is 'bent'. The bent one happened today while something was digging. I need to get some chicken wire or be more vigilant. I am hoping to plant some beans, who knows? Sara wants some tomatoes, but I might be late on starting a tomato plant.

I have some sea monkeys growing, and also have included a pic of them. The circle shows what I believe to be a sea monkey.

Tri-post

I planted a new crop of radishes today. I bought pesticides, so that should help the caterpillar problem.

Squirrels scratch their heads like a dog, with their back legs, when they have an acorn in their hands.

Check out this quote, "In the opening minutes of the Gulf War on January 17, 1991, an unarmed USAF EF-111, crewed by Captain James A. Denton and Captain Brent D. Brandon scored a kill against an Iraqi Dassault Mirage F1EQ, which they managed to maneuver into the ground, making it the first and only F-111 to achieve an aerial victory over another aircraft." from wikipedia.

Radish and others update.

So, I finally figured out what was eating my radishes. These green caterpillers, maybe from a cabbage white butterfly. I hand picked them all off. I found out that a pesticide made from a bacteria should keep them off of the radishes, "BT". Pictures!

My other pots had plants that started to come up. I am not sure that all of those plants are what I planted. I did have one really strong plant, it must be a bean plant. The other ones were really small. We will see relatively soon.

I need a new camera, one that can zoom in to see small things....

Here is a proper photo, of misty.

Germination!

My radishes have germinated. I planted them last Saturday, and sure enough, in 7 (packet said 7-10) days they germinated.

I have a shitty camera, and realized that I should have taken it at more of an angle. If you look really hard, you can see little bits of green. Those are the radishes. All of the seeds seemed to have worked, so I will need to thin them soon. I am going to give them a couple of days to get started so I can figure out which ones are the strong ones.

I can plant another set in a week, it said that you can plant them every two weeks for a while. I have another pot ready for cherry tomatoes. I think I need to get some smaller pots for bean plants. I don't want to plant any in the yard this time, because my gardener(I mean... mower dude) figures that anything that grows is a weed. "Thats a weed" - him, "no, thats beans, I planted them, look at the fruit and flowers" -me

I don't even know if I like to eat radishes!
